COVID-19

COVID RAVAGED LAS VEGAS IN 2020, AND NOW, DUE TO INADEQUATE LEADERSHIP, WE ARE ONCE AGAIN A HOTSPOT AS THE DELTA VARIANT RAGES ON. WE NEED RELIEF AND SUPPORT NOW.

Unfortunately, Las Vegas is no stranger to crises. During the Great Recession, we faced some of the highest unemployment, foreclosure, and houselessness rates in the country. Now, during the COVID-19 pandemic, history is repeating itself. Undocumented communities, low-income families, women, communities of color, and essential workers in CD-1 have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, yet are the least likely to receive any relief. Our neighbors are facing a loss of livelihood, housing, and life; meanwhile, our current leaders lack the will to protect and support the most vulnerable people in our district in the short-term and the long-term.

RECENT HEALTHCARE HEADLINES:

I understand that those with the most to lose have been hit hardest during the pandemic. We have a moral obligation to ensure that COVID relief and recovery goes directly to these communities. In the near term, we must hold the current administration accountable and ensure vaccine administration plans prioritize our communities that face a barrier to access. We must act quickly to pass a comprehensive COVID-19 economic relief bill that guarantees everyone $2,000 monthly payments, extends the eviction moratorium, cancels any unpaid rent accrued during the pandemic, provides mortgage relief to working and middle class homeowners, provides every person that is uninsured emergency Medicare access, and gives immediate economic relief to small business.

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the systematic inequalities plaguing our frontline communities and highlighted how much more we, the 99%, deserve. We must pass Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, a Jobs Guarantee, and a Housing Guarantee before crisis strikes again.
